Biblical and Theological Literacy

Expand your understanding, practice, and formation with learning in your own place.

The Vineyard are working with Laidlaw College to offer two courses per year to groups meeting together in their churches. You will meet in person and join an online class taught by Laidlaw lecturers. During the evening your group will discuss the course content in its own breakout group.

These courses are offered by Laidlaw College and form part of the Diploma in Christian Studies (Level 5) programme. Groups will primarily be studying for interest only, at a cost of only $500 per location, regardless of the number of participants. Individuals may also enrol for credit, which involves completing assessments, enrolling with Laidlaw (here), and paying the full course fee (see here)

Congregation members, please engage with your Pastor and Leader.

Pastors and Leaders, please register your church as a learning site via the link below.

The two courses we offer in 2025 are:

505.515 Christian Leadership and Mission

Tuesday evenings in Semester One 2025 - 13 weeks of classes between 25 February and 17 June

In Christian Leadership and Mission you will explore the shape of distinctly Christian leadership, and the contours of God’s mission in the world. You will then use this lens of Christian leadership and mission to evaluate expressions of the gospel in various contexts, including your own. This will be connected to an exploration of the identity and purpose of the church, which is central to the missional purposes of God in the world. This course is grounded in biblical and theological themes and connects with your own personal growth as a leader, a person on mission whatever your vocation, and as a follower of Jesus.

401.515 Formation

Tuesday evenings in Semester one 2025. 13 weeks of classes between 22 July and 11 November.

Formation is your invitation to discover, or return to, some foundational truths, and to allow those to impact the deep places of your life. We’ll explore who God is and who we are as His children – and then, how do we live out of His life in us? How do we grow more deeply in love for God and for our neighbour? We’ll learn about a range of spiritual practices from deep in the Christian tradition, and some more modern expressions of these, and we’ll try them out together. Our hope is that you’ll discover some new, creative ways of encountering God, and that they’ll be like a trellis that supports and develops your connection to the vine. So that His life in you might bear much fruit for the Father’s glory, for your joy, and for the blessing of others.
